In clear purple twilight city hours
as eastern winds gently blow
Whistling around towers and gliding
over waters that in the river flow,
I find my time with you is more mellow
than clouds that at sunset glow
As if brushed with gold and by angels blue
sprinkling stars on us below.
Your soft gentle look by my side
dwells on dreams and visions above,
And my animal heart swells at the sight
of such enraptured love.
I have loved you for so many hours
and your kisses fill my memory
Like one who was a sailor
remembers treasures from the sea.
Yet more precious than mother of pearl
is the light in your sweet eyes.
Now come hold my roughened hands
in soft caress for I must kiss you,
Let my toughened senses melt again
in your presence like rosewax will
While we love in the gypsy nights
to endless symphonies that fill
the air of our secret place.
You have placed the lilac fragrance
Like a signature of your feminine power,
and I am captivated, for my love is after all,
A loyal beast arising at the trumpets' call

Poet's note: I took this picture of the Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California in August 2001, then Mary and I went up and had a little dinner to kick the sand off our feet before heading back to Texas. California, I love you : - ) The text of the poem was written about San Antonio, though - just a little historical interpolation of images in time and space for the akashic records. I had to explain this a bit since I mention a river in the poem but what you are seeing in this photo is the Pacific Ocean just after sunset.
