My Eyes Open Wide In Delight

I think of you in your city journeys and your lamplit hours,

Alone perhaps but for a book or a favorite piece of music

Forged for eternity by some yearning artist.

Your hair is soft and frames your Mona Lisa face like my hands long to

When emotions stir you to sigh and you in turn move my soul

Like waters are moved by powerful winds from the east.

I love to caress you.

Nights of the full moon have found me weaving destiny's tapestry

Between humming cities conducting warm business with fellow men,

Whose own buried and distinct lives are barely cloaked

By the visage of polite company.

Men to men we are so casual and distant and friendly

But our women know who we are.

I think of you as mine, or one of mine, or me as one of yours or yours anyway.

Oh my heart churns within my breast with longing for you

And I feel a ray of light

Stretch out across the horizon to where you must be somewhere,

Perhaps if not in flight then back in the city where we met, where we meet,

Where we dwell within watercolour hours spent sweetly yet not together.

The clock ticks and I am not in your day and you seem to

Need not remember when I'm away.

Shall I tell you how I gathered flowers

And  planted a kiss on a smiling postcard today?

You remain like your scent in my desire and you tug at my senses

Because you sweetly tease and you so please

Even my mind you warm and so soft, so beautiful though fragile friend.

Oh you are strong as the willow that bends but does not break.

I kiss you for hours and a night is as a minute yes

Do you see I do not get enough of you?

I can drink you up as though you were a ray from the silver orb

And my heart a dreamweaver's cup in the singing breeze.

Am I an ecstatic shimmering lake livened by your touch now, no,

No, rather I am one to devour you like the morning sun devours the horizon

Making its glow pinker and more flushed until it blazes

Into day's shrieking cascading beams and my eyes open wide in the light.

My eyes open wide in delight at even the thought of you.

I want you to know my poet's heart loves you already.

I know you feel how I long for you like only you understand I long for you,

Sweet lady your soft kiss and blazing passion stir deep warm waters.

You ignite me into a volcano yet tender as a candle's flame I can remain

So come closer and feel me shine on you again until we melt the hours.

The candles are ours while here so reach closer,

Come relish in each moment's glow.

Do not go gently into that good night, as the poet says,

Do not leave me burning day's grains of sun

As if I were a burning mountain raging by day on a deserted island.

If only by night you can see the light I want you and I want you to want me.

Think of me even now, wherever you are when you remember these words.

I will be far from you for now but look I was here I am here.

From all corners of the earth I hear bugle calls as I return to battles

For I am in the midst of such wars as only these noble ones

Who fight at my side and on my side can savor.

The glory of war's ashes is not only in triumph over the cold enemy,

Rather it is in that the long journey home makes it so pleasant afterwards

To again be by the fireside savoring moments alone with you after the hot fight,

To again taste the fruit of the vine in the kingdom won by such high flight.

I have so loved time with you though it has been but a moment

I have so loved the kisses in the night and the tight warmth of you.

Feel me closer here while my gentle hand colours love's hour and you

Swoon as with a lighter touch I feel your rosy lips bloom now hear

Me whisper to your ear I must devour you with kisses again and soon.
