Madonna of the Morning (for
Mary)
Sit and sip your rosehip tea, Madonna of the morning hours, as the rains
Thunder like a chariot race under the cobalt skies of the season.
I arose from a night spent by your side and in my dreams I kissed you
Many a time, and there were years for raising children and the sun
Cantered across the sky like a frolicking horse across a yellow meadow.
I embrace you and the scent of your hair and the sounds of your sighs
Fill my vision of delight that I sing endlessly to try and tell you
Just how the ecstasy you give me will lift my poet's heart. Wings.
You give me wings like a blessed decree from above will also carry
Across the folds of days and nights spent loving you to fill this place,
This shrine which I long ago found when alone I sought solace
From the weary journey of cold wet boots and sleepless humming miles.
It is here in this time alone with you that in your eyes I see the Grace
Of God will reveal a plan I seek to fulfill for you are my oracle lady.
Brush your hair and in the curved motion I see the sign, then gaze at me
And in your eyes there is a light I see can follow from here to there
Yes, in the movement of your steps, oh daughter of God I see flight
Would happen if you but lift your wings on the stairway of light.
Speak to me of market madness and your endless search for pink,
Of fluffy things and scented candles and walks in the park. Come,
I say, holding my hand to you and you place your arm in mine.
We contain the mysteries and we are the magic of love in two
And because I am one and you are one we will be as one too.
There is a hint of tomorrow in every moment now, as even then
We saw hints of what would be when we saw what was before.
Sweet lady of the hours, in your beauty I see the glow of infinity,
In your voice I hear echoes of the Divinity that shaped your breath.
In my love I send you a heart full of light for we are only beaming.
Sit a little longer, Beauty, stay in view and let me share my little fire
For the more I see the more of you I want and the more you inspire.
