Note On A Pillow (for Mary)
Oh love, lets walk along the beach visiting cities and forests
like the other day, lets do again, God be willing.
Dear beautiful sweet woman, dearest beautiful one,
I am here and you know my love with heart and soul finds
kisses we share. Oh the moments when we love,
I so cherish because you are more precious
than rubies and diamonds, as the proverb said.
You are the virtuous woman spoken of in letters
from the wisest king, and none compares.
When in our generation I give you my heart,
it is a gift for the kindest woman I ever met.
I relish each moment of our lives together.
Yes, many radiant smiles fill the world yet
you are the only one I want for me.
I would not trade you for another.
We may make new friends along the way,
and sometimes even in solitude they gather,
like golden grains of sand along the beach.
yet no new friend takes my love away,
though the heart be a great ship
and the sea encompasses every horizon.
On this journey we share a quick embrace
with fellow travelers on the hour;
for the wine of blessing must be shared
or it will turn to vinegar.
Still no one can takes your place with me
and the multi-booted city crowds
melt into the evening fog.
How pleasant the time when we break bread,
home with the children God has given us, given
you as pieces of your heart (for God could not
be everywhere, they say, so he made mothers),
given us as children of the heart, by Grace
grafted in the Spirit and by love embraced.
They are here but for a visit, little stars
with laughter in their eyes,
and they soon return as they came,
to their unlimited skies.
They shall pray and find their way
in this wide and beautiful world.
So blessed we to see them grow.
Oh see now the sun, moon and stars dance
on this sparkling shore where I love you,
holding you close to warmly kiss you.
Oh my love beyond words please
feel in your heartbeat thoughts of me?
If even if for a moment you feel
the chills of a winter storm
or face an icy walkway alone,
without human hand to guide:
Please be at peace, rejoice,
for He is with us in the Spirit.
Yes I want you to be careful;
if you lean this way the Lord will steady you,
and if we fall into His arms, He strengthens.
Oh darling preserve your watchful mind.
Be as a lighthouse in the night.
I am a weary sailor homeward bound, famished, longing
for a bowl of soup and the warmth of the fire.
I stack winter wood
for you and the children while you
in the teapot pour honeyed drops of Sun.
The moon bridges cold waters with silver hair undone.
Comes day like new fire, wiping tears of joy and it's flame
finds you laughing with eyes aglow calling my name.
